Dress Code Policy Reminder

As we move into the midpoint of first semester, we want to highlight the policy of the Student Dress Code. While we have seen an improved compliance with the expectations of student dress, it seems like a good time to remind everyone in the community the expectations and clarify questions that have come up. The focus of the dress code is eliminating athletic or workout attire. The top that accompanies leggings must be a sweater or blouse that completely covers the torso. Regardless of gender, shirts must offer complete coverage of the torso. T-shirts or sweatshirts worn with leggings are unacceptable. Belts must be worn with all pants, there are belts available in the student services office to borrow for the day. Students out of dress code WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND CLASS until changing into appropriate attire. This will count as an unexcused absence from class and if the student cannot find suitable clothing within 20 minutes it will result in the assigning of a five hour JUG for the absence. No work will be allowed to be turned in for an unexcused absence, per the student handbook. Please encourage your student to dress appropriately for school and help create a more positive environment for student learning and growth. The full dress code can be found in the Student Handbook on pages 35-36.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parents are encouraged to utilize the communication tools of FamilyLink and Moodle to stay current with student course expectations and progress. In addition to Family Link and Moodle, families are offered a personalized model of additional communication at Parent-Teacher Conferences.  This is an opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss academic, behavioral, and emotional progress of their student(s).  Bellarmine has two fall opportunities:

Wednesday, November 8th,  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 9th, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

And one spring opportunity:
Tuesday, April 24th, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Both the evening and afternoon conferences are designed in arena format. We ask that teachers and parents limit this time to five minutes for a brief conversation and academic update. If you need a longer conversation, please email or call the teacher to schedule that conference.

Both the evening and afternoon conferences are located in the Names Gym and Connelly Campus Center. Please use the student parking lot and enter on the lower floors as those are the areas where the conferences will be held. Parents will receive a mid-semester report card (mailed October 31st). Please bring your report card to locate the teachers you wish to see.

Faculty will be located by department: English, PE/Health, Religion, Social Studies, and World Language in the Names Gym; Art, members of the Learning Resource Center, Math, Music, and Science in the Connelly Campus Center.  Any faculty member unable to attend either day will have a sign up for a return phone conference or email correspondence within the next two school days.

Surplus blankets will go into Operation Keep 'Em Warm and Fed storage, for continued distribution during the cold weather. Emergency Schedule – Inclement Weather

Please familiarize yourself with our emergency schedule for inclement weather. The principal or designee will announce school delays and closures by 6:20 a.m. at the latest. An announcement of a late start means school will start at 9:00 a.m. or at 10:00 a.m. If conditions worsen or predictions are poor, students and parents should listen again by 8:00 a.m. before leaving home to see if school delay has been changed to "cancelled."

Learn more here about the emergency schedule including radio and TV stations to listen to, website updates, assignments and activities.

Service Opportunities at Bellarmine

Bellarmine graduates young men and women of competence, compassion and conscience, who are committed to leadership and service.

Bellarmine has many ways to get involved in service. From local opportunities such as L'Arche Farms and our Adopt a Family program to our global service trips, students have a wide variety of options when it comes to serving those in need. Also, in the classroom students are educated about service and compassion during their sophomore and junior years.
Adopt a Family
Since 1991, Bellarmine has provided Christmas for families in need. This year, about 45 families will be adopted. Through the Adopt-A-Family program, volunteers provide Christmas day meals, a "stocked cupboard," and Christmas gifts for the families. The goal is to celebrate with others, not for them, therefore living out the Jesuit mission and honoring everyone's invisible talents and challenges.
