Principal Chris Gavin to Leave Bellarmine After 32 Years
March 4, 2014
Dear Families, Friends and Alumni,
After 28 years as Principal of Bellarmine, I have decided it’s time for a change. I came to Bellarmine when I was 28 years old and have grown up here. We say to our students, "Find what sets your hearts on fire because God is there." God is calling me to something new.
I have accepted the Principal position at St. Patrick’s School starting the 2014/15 school year. St. Pat’s is my parish and the school our children attended. What sets my heart on fire is the value of Catholic education for all who desire it. St. Patrick’s School is a community that my heart is calling me to be part of at this time.
It is hard to express what Bellarmine means to me and my family. I am who I am, in most ways, because of my work here on the hill. Over these years, my joys and sense of purpose have their origins in being a Lion. My greatest friendships are found here. Many of my proudest professional moments are because of your kids, your families, and the thousands of families whose lives I have been blessed to have been a small part.
There are challenges ahead and some anxiety, but there is no doubt that Bellarmine has been and will continue to be the community that I feel the most love and respect for. There is no question that my future will always be in support of the school that the late Archbishop Thomas Murphy (a Bishop in Chicago and Seattle) called the best Catholic high school he ever knew.
Bellarmine is in a great position to continue its legacy of forming young men and women of competence, conscience and compassion. The faculty and staff here are remarkable in their talent and generosity. I see the results of their commitment every day in your children and the alums I am blessed to call friends.
I will be pleased to see you often. Pray for me and know I will always hold you in my prayers.
St. Robert Bellarmine pray for us,
