James Lilly,  Sculptor
Dec 7- January  31
Open Reception: January 3, 5-7pm

Come and enjoy the works of James Lilly, a wood sculptor creating reliquaries that appear to be made of metal and stone, exact down to the fabricated screw heads and torch cut steel plating.

Lilly is a tromp l’oil wood sculptor. Using a wood laser cutter and traditional sculpting tools, Lilly creates reliquaries that appear to be made of metal and stone, exact down to the fabricated screw heads and torch cut steel plating.

Beautifully painted and sculpted fish, whales and crabs occupy the place of reverence in the center of these industrial looking alters. Single words ask questions and define polarities with a thesis capstone word at the top of the reliquary. Viewers are left to puzzle out the meanings of these disparate but beautifully combined compositions.
