The Drama Program at Bellarmine encompasses a variety of opportunities for students interested in the composition, production and performance of theater. Students put on two main stage productions each year: a dramatic play in the fall and a musical in the spring. In addition to acting roles, students are responsible for all technical aspects of the programs, including lighting, sounds, sets, makeup and costumes.

Students may also perform in Bellarmine's Puppet Theatre; participate in writing, directing and performing one-act plays; and take additional courses for academic credit. Comprehensively, the Drama Program offers Bellarmine students a practical creative outlet, a working understanding of the theatrical arts, an opportunity to develop leadership skills, and a place to make lifelong friendships.

See Drama Awards for some of the awards Bellarmine's plays and musicals have won over the years.

2018 Bellarmine Drama - Fall Play Auditions, Student Production/Design, Adult Support Opportunities

Audition Information:
Bellarmine’s Theater Department is currently securing rights for our fall play. Once rights have been secured and the play selection has been confirmed, formal audition information will be posted to the Bellarmine Theater website. Auditions and callbacks for the fall play will take place after school on September 4, September 5, and September 6. Specific information on what to prepare and how auditions will be conducted will be posted on the above site. Please check this site periodically for updates.

Student Production and Design Information:
For students interested in production or design of the fall play/spring musical, a student meeting will be held on Friday, August 31 from 2:45-4:00 p.m. in McAstocker Theater. Opportunities include stage management, set design, costume/makeup design, properties design, lighting design, sound design, as well as technicians for all design elements. More information about what responsibilities these positions include will be presented at this meeting. Students interested in auditioning can also attend this meeting to learn about other available opportunities in the theater department.

Adult Support Opportunities:
Bellarmine’s Theater Department is currently seeking support for supervision of students in production and design roles. Available opportunities include lighting and sound supervision, costume and properties supervision, and set building supervision. Experience in these fields is preferred, although not required, as these roles mainly include providing training, advice, and mentorship for students as they design and build elements of Bellarmine’s fall play and spring musical. Hours are after school for 2 hours 3-5 days per week with an additional hour on Wednesdays for production meetings. There will be extended hours during tech rehearsal and dress rehearsals M-F from October 29-November 7.

If you are interested in these opportunities or would like more information, please contact Brien O’Loughlin at oloughlinb@bellarmineprep.org.
