The Drama Program at Bellarmine encompasses a variety of opportunities for students interested in the composition, production and performance of theater. Students put on two main stage productions each year: a dramatic play in the fall and a musical in the spring. In addition to acting roles, students are responsible for all technical aspects of the programs, including lighting, sounds, sets, makeup and costumes.
Students may also participate in writing, directing and performing one-act plays; and take additional courses for academic credit. Comprehensively, the Drama Program offers Bellarmine students a practical creative outlet, a working understanding of the theatrical arts, an opportunity to develop leadership skills, and a place to make lifelong friendships.
For more information about Bellarmine's Drama Program, contact Drama Director Brien O'Loughlin.

Bellarmine Drama Presents "Boxed In"
Bellarmine Drama is pleased to present its fall production, "Boxed In," a suite of student and community written pieces commissioned last spring to help students find a creative outlet in response to the COVID-19 Quarantine. Students auditioned, rehearsed, designed, and built this production all within the limitations of our ongoing distance learning model.
Please register here and we will provide the streaming information as it becomes available. There is no charge for registration, but we would welcome any donations to help offset our costs of the program. We hope to be able to release the production sometime in December.
Bellarmine is excited to begin the process for our fall play, a series of one-act plays centered around experiences related to staying home and staying safe. Please see below for information regarding participation as a crew member or for auditions.
Actors must commit to the following times for rehearsals. Rehearsals are throughout the fall from September 14th-November 11th. Rehearsal times are from 3pm-5pm M-F. A complete schedule will be provided to students after auditions with exact dates required for participation on Zoom - not everyone will be required to participate every day. Recordings of scenes will be done primarily done “on your own” outside of the rehearsal times and then submitted for review, adjustments, retakes, and editing throughout the process. If you are unable to participate in scheduled rehearsals or film your scenes on your own time, please speak with Brien O’Loughlin (Director) or Melissa Minjares (Producer) about other ways to be involved with Bellarmine drama in the fall.
- After school 3 p.m.-5 p.m., M-F, September 14-November 11th.
- Release of filmed play: November 12th.

For auditions, students are asked to:
BE PREPARED TO TELL US A STORY OF SOMETHING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU DURING QUARANTINE and
Option A: Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue from a modern or contemporary play. Dramatic and comedic options are both acceptable. You are encouraged to memorize your monologue if you choose this option.
Option B: We will provide students with audition sides during the 15 minute meeting at the start of auditions each day. Sides do not need to be memorized.
For questions, please contact Brien O’Loughlin at email@example.com.
For students interested in crew, a crew meeting will take place on Friday, September 11th at 3:00 p.m. over Zoom for a brief overview of opportunities and to start thinking about how to tackle new challenges. All crew members are also asked to attend the first week of rehearsals from September 14th-18th from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. over Zoom. The first week will be table work (reading and analyzing the script) for all crew (costumes, props, lights, set, audio, production) and cast and discuss the mechanics of putting on the play during distance learning. All interested in participating in the fall play are asked to come to these rehearsals.
