February 2019 Art Show: Mike Hollins
Mike Hollins takes from and is inspired by the music of the 80’s and 90’s from his experiences with the Seattle area grunge scene and appreciation of the jazz aesthetic. He takes from the imagery and processes of Picasso, Keith Herring and Dale Chihuly. Hollins also takes from the images of conspiracy and the Polynesian Tiki experience.
By using found, repurposed and industrial/commercial materials, Hollins’ pieces have both and industrial and organic feel, without direct reference to either. Basically, repurposing his medium in the same way he uses his influences.
The overall effect of his collaging of concept, material, inspiration and personal biography, is a show that is both showcase for individual objects and gallery in whole transformed into an Art object.
