Krissie Bowman accepts the De Thomas Award for herself and her co-workers

De Thomas Award for 2011 Honors Krissie Bowman and Cafeteria Staff

De Thomas worked in the Bellarmine main office in the mid to late 1970s. At that time, there were no computers in the office and all forms had to be written out or bubbled in for key-punching. All of that was her responsibility. She was working on a Saturday at report card time when she unfortunately passed away from a sudden heart attack. At the end of the school year, her family donated a plaque for the De Thomas Memorial Award -- a perpetual award presented to a member of the Bellarmine community who demonstrates outstanding service and honest dedication beyond his or her assigned duties.

Traditionally the award has been presented to a single staff member or volunteer who demonstrates that kind of dedication. This year, however, it seemed only appropriate that the three women who work together to bring Bellarmine’s students, staff and faculty such a great selection of meal offerings -- whether lunches, catering, or special events -- should be honored with this award. Their care in making healthy food choices and attention to our environmental efforts are noteworthy, but it is their ability to often go above and beyond the call of duty that deserves special praise. We are all fortunate and enriched by their presence.

It is our honor to present the De Thomas Award for 2011 to Krissie Bowman and her kitchen staff, Yolanda Croskey and Arlee Rodriques -- three most deserving members of the Bellarmine community.
