Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is a devotion that stimulates the faithful to an awareness of the marvelous presence of Christ and is an invitation to spiritual communion with Him (Instruction on Eucharistic Worship). What does this mean for you?

On Fridays of every week during both lunches in the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Chapel, we have the opportunity to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament. We can pray the formal prayers we know or pray in our own words or we can sit or kneel before the Blessed Sacrament and just be present with Jesus and listen.

When you come into the church during Exposition, you will see the monstrance placed on the altar. The monstrance is a sacred vessel used for exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The name, monstrance, comes from the Latin verb, monstrare which means "to show." The primary purpose of the monstrance, then, is to hold the Blessed Sacrament so it can been seen and adored by the faithful. When you pass in front of the altar, since the Blessed Sacrament will be positioned on the altar, the proper sign of reverence is to kneel, on both knees.
