Wiegand Nursery & Greenhouse
Greenhouse Mission & History

Mission
The mission of the Wiegand Nursery and Greenhouse is to promote an awareness of and an appreciation for the uniqueness of Pacific Northwest plant life. To have an abundant and healthy habitat for animal species (including humans), it is this plant life that must be protected.
One of its main purposes is to provide opportunities for students to work with and learn from plant life. The facility provides students with opportunities to not only work with plants, but to conduct scientific research and class experiments/projects.
History
The existence of Bellarmine's greenhouse facility is due to generous donations from the E.L. Wiegand Foundation. The Wiegand Foundation, Reno, Nevada, supports programs and projects of exemplary organizations in the fields of education, health and medical research, public affairs, civic and community affairs, and arts and cultural affairs.
Construction on phase 1 began in the spring of 1996 when the first greenhouse was built. In the spring of 1998, the second phase of the facility began when the site was cleared for the outside nursery, a second greenhouse, cold frame, and garage. Bellarmine's P.R.I.D.E. Auction also supported the completion of the facility.
