About Bellarmine / Work Study

Work Study Program

Work study positions are assigned only to students whose families have received financial aid. (Please refer to the Financial Aid section on this website for information on how and when to apply for financial aid at Bellarmine.)

Work study provides an opportunity for students to reduce their tuition at Bellarmine. It is a mature responsibility, but one we think, as a school community, is an important education piece. Second, the Work Study Program provides the necessary people to do the many jobs that keep our school and campus a clean and safe environment. Therefore, we rely on the commitment of students as work study requires the same responsibilities as any other job.

If a family qualifies for financial assistance, an award letter is mailed from the Comptroller's Office with an option to accept the work study portion of the grant award. If the work study option is chosen:

  • Students must contact Ms. Judy Torgerson, Work Study Coordinator, to set up a 10-15 minute appointment to apply for an on-campus job. Detailed information on this process wll be provided with your financial aid award letter.

  • Campus jobs are assigned beginning in mid-April for the following summer and school year. Jobs are assigned on a first-come, first served basis, so it is advised that students set up an appointment time as soon as they receive their financial aid grant/work study award letter.

  • Prior to meeting with Ms. Torgerson, students should consider their availability based on sports seasons, school activities, transportation, etc. While efforts are made to place students in jobs conducive with their own and their family's schedules, jobs are restricted to dates/times/availability based on the school's and individual supervisor's schedules.

  • After a job selection is made, students will be given a copy of their job assignment along with the "Work Study Student Responsibilities and Expectations." Parents are encouraged to review these materials with their students. Please remember, when applying for an on-campus job, it comes with the same commitment and expectations as any employment.

  • Work study students are paid at the rate of $8.55 per hour. (Starting in 2012, the rate will increase to $9.04 per hour for next school year's work study students). Supervisors keep and manage timesheets with the student's assistance. It is advised that students keep a personal record of their completed hours as well. Timesheets are turned into the Comptroller's Office at the end of every month for recording. Hours are deducted from tuition as they are completed.
