Athletics Overview

Since Bellarmine opened its doors in 1928, athletics has played a vital role in the education of its students.

Over 75 years ago, Bellarmine joined the three-team Tacoma City League with a fledgling program consisting only of football, basketball, baseball and track teams. Since then, the program has grown dramatically and now fields seventeen varsity teams and twenty-one developmental teams in twelve different sports.

In 1980, the Lions, along with the five Tacoma Public Schools and South Kitsap, formed the 4A Narrows League. The league has grown to sixteen teams and stretches from Olympia and Shelton in the South Sound to Poulsbo and Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula.

Throughout the years, Bellarmine athletes have not only achieved on the field and on the court, but they have also learned invaluable lessons about themselves and life through the spirit of healthy interscholastic competition.
