Volleyball Earns 4A State Championship Title

The Lady Lions capped off a winning season with a huge win over seven-time champion Mead of Spokane in the championship final. Although it was their 9th state appearance since 2002, this is the first state title for Bellarmine. Meet the Head Coach

A 1983 graduate of Bellarmine, Jody DeGroot has been the varsity volleyball coach since 2002. Her teams have consistently qualified for the state tournament during her tenure and the 2012 team won the 4A state title in 2012. Jody participated in both volleyball and softball while at Bellarmine and began her teaching career in 1990 in the South Kitsap School District coaching both sports.

After returning to her alma mater to teach biology and algebra in 1996, Jody moved up the coaching ranks in our C team and junior varsity volleyball programs where her teams were undefeated for three years in Narrows League play. Jody was also the Lion's junior varsity and assistant varsity fastpitch coach from 1997-2001.

During her tenure as varsity coach, Jody's teams have earned five Narrows League titles (2002, 2005, 2006, 2011, 2012) and been to eight state tournaments with trophies in three of those (2002, 2004, 2005 (6th), 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011 (8th), 2012 (1st).

Jody was named Narrows League Coach of the Year in 2012.

A 1987 graduate of Gonzaga University, Jody and her husband, Dave, who is also a member of the Bellarmine faculty, have two children Katy B'13 and Ryan B'15.
