Meet the Director of Cross Country & Track & Field

Coach Matt Ellis began his teaching career in Bellarmine's history department in the fall of 1997. He is a 1989 graduate of Seattle's Blanchet High School where he participated in track and cross country. Matt continued competitive running during college at the University of Puget Sound where he earned All-American honors in 1994. He took over as the Bellarmine varsity girls head cross country coach in 1998 and has taken the Lions to the state meet every year since then. In the fall of 2009, the boys and girls cross country teams were combined. That fall the boys made their first state appearance in ten years.

In the spring, Matt serves as head coach of the the Lion's boys and girls track & field. In his spare time, he still runs competitively and won the Napa Valley Marathon in 2002 and the Capital City Marathon in 2005. Matt lives in Tacoma with his wife, Nancy.
