Jump Start Your Experience!

Bellarmine offers a Summer Program designed for current and incoming 9th grade students who will benefit from a jump start to Bellarmine’s college preparatory curriculum. 

Dress code for readiness courses is the same as the regular school year. As always, modesty should prevail. Please refer to the Bellarmine Handbook for more information.

Incoming Students (Rising Freshmen)


English Readiness
Monday-Thursday, August 15 – August 25
8:00 – 9:10 a.m. or 9:30 – 10:40 a.m.
$250 

Students will be introduced to the freshman English curriculum through an integrated reading and writing approach. Lesson design will emphasize the connection between reflective thinking, reading and writing. Instruction will target strategies for building vocabulary and active reading for literacy and nonfiction text. Writing strategies will focus on sentence fluency, paragraph structure, organization and conventions.

Algebra Readiness 
Monday-Thursday, August 15 – August 25
8:00 – 9:10 a.m. or 9:30 – 10:40 a.m.
$250 

This course is designed for students entering Algebra who need a review of rational numbers (fractions, decimals, percentages), operations with integers, and pre-algebra skills including constructing graphs, tables and writing equations. Lesson design will focus on multiple modality learning to solidify the core skills needed for Algebra.

Algebra Enhancement
Monday-Thursday, August 15 – August 25
8:00 – 9:10 a.m. or 9:30 – 10:40 a.m.

This course is designed for students entering Geometry or Algebra 2 who will benefit from a review of linear, quadratic, exponential and inverse functions, rational expressions and exponents. 

* For rising freshman taking Geometry or current students preparing for Algebra 2

Power of Parent Partnership: Optimizing Freshman Success
August 17: 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.
or
August 23: 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

This workshop is an opportunity for parents to meet in a small group setting and discuss before school starts, how to support their student at home. We will discuss navigating digital learning use (iPad), the structure of Bellarmine’s academic supports, and how to set up complementary systems at home for freshman academic success. Come learn about Bellarmine’s rules of academic engagement.

There is no cost for this workshop.

Students will be introduced to the sophomore English curriculum through an integrated reading and writing approach. Lesson design will emphasize the connection between critical reading, writing and reflective thinking. Instruction will target strategies for active reading of literature. Writing strategies will focus on writing development and fluency for sophomore success.

Step Up to Writing Boot Camp
Thursday & Friday, August 18 & 19
Time: 8:30 a.m. - Noon
Cost: $120

We are offering a Step Up to Writing Boot Camp designed to review and improve writing skills for  incoming Juniors.

Why? Junior year is an essential year for writing in preparation for college success. Students will learn to use the writing process – prewrite, outline, draft, revise, and publish – to write well developed essays with varied purpose including summary, informative, persuasive, and compare/contrast writing.

The building blocks of sentence structure will be reviewed:
  • Organizing paragraphs
  • Using the writing process
  • Developing essays

Developing College Essays and Resume Course
Monday-Thursday, August 15-25
Time: 9:00 - 10:10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. - 11:40 a.m.
Cost: $250

We are offering a Developing College Essays and Resume course that will set you up for college application success. This course will prepare you for and provide you with:
  • Choosing appropriate essay topics
  • Developing pertinent details for essays and resume
  • Completing one college application essay
  • Writing a professional resume
*For rising Seniors
