Bellarmine Opens Art Gallery on Campus

Announcing the opening of Tacoma’s newest exhibition space, “The Gathering Space Art Gallery” on the campus of Bellarmine Preparatory School.
“The Gathering Space Art Gallery” is an experiment in institutional exhibition spaces. Universities and colleges will often operate fine art galleries as a fundamental part of their art and cultural curriculum. Bellarmine is doing this in a high school setting using the art gallery as a cultural and vocational teaching opportunity. Students will be involved in all aspects of gallery operation (curatorial, installation, promotion etc.) and will work directly with artists in the gallery and the classroom.

Because this is a student based/teaching gallery, the exhibits will be based upon the notion that artists are lifelong students. Four shows will feature working artists from the Puget Sound region. These professionals will be working in the gallery and in the classroom. Three shows will feature student art works -- one will be a student curated Jr. High School open exhibit, one will feature the work of current Bellarmine students, and one will feature the regional winners from the educational school districts throughout Washington State that are also members of the Washington Federation of Independent Schools.

The gallery is open to the public free of charge. Gallery hours for the public will be 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. Mon- Fri. There will be catered artists receptions on the first Thursday of each month. Bellarmine is a non-profit educational institution so the gallery will be a no-commission sales gallery. There will be opportunities to purchase work directly from the artists at the opening reception (or during standard hours of operation).

Bellarmine will be holding an opening reception on September 7th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages, to inaugurate its first show featuring the works of Chandler Woodfin and Todd Jannausch. Both artists will be in attendance.
