Message from the Principal 1.9.22

Please read this important message from Principal and Interim President Cindy Davis.
Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was wonderful to see our campus alive again following our break.   The season of Advent is such a joyous time and we were blessed to celebrate with our community prior to the break.   The transition back after a break requires us to refocus and prepare for the weeks ahead.  Our students return knowing semester finals are only a few weeks away.   Our staff are working closely with our students to prepare them so they can meet their academic goals.  Bellarmine prepares to admit students to the class of 2027 later in February.  As we move into the second semester we also know this will be our final semester with the class of 2023.     

Here we are in January and we are nearly half way through our school year.  This time of year marks the transition of semester and this year it also means a transition in leadership.  I am honored to serve as interim president while the search committee and board of directors searches and determines who will be Bellarmine’s next president.  I will continue in my role of principal and this is made possible because of our strong administrative team and community.  

We will continue to provide you with updates and essential information in our bimonthly letters.  As always, your feedback is important so please continue to share your thoughts with us about our communication.

The following are a few updates:

Catholic Schools Week
  • Bellarmine will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week, January 30 - February 3.
  • During this week, we will honor our Catholic and Jesuit traditions.   We are excited for this week as it provides an opportunity to celebrate Catholic education and a chance to recognize the importance , the value, and the contributions of Catholic education to the Church and the world.
  • We will share the activities planned for the week in our next newsletter.
Readiness for Finals
Semester Exams
COVID 
  • It is important for students to report a positive COVID test result to davisc@bellarmineprep.org and follow the guidelines provided by the Department of Health: What to do if you test positive for COVID-19
  • We continue to experience a very low number of cases and we believe this is due, in part, due to our practice of isolating when symptoms first present and wearing a mask until symptoms are no longer present.
  • We are reviewing our position on providing evidence of vaccination from our parent volunteers.  We want to ensure we are doing everything possible to provide a healthy environment for all, however, we need to examine the value of this requirement.  We plan to update you in our next newsletter.
  • Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy.
Alumni Service Corp
  • Bellarmine joined other Jesuit schools by instituting an Alumni Service program.  Alumni from any Jesuit school (high school or college) are invited to participate.  There are requirements to participate and through an application and interview process Bellarmine has successfully identified alumni to participate in our program.  This year we were blessed to have one of our own alumni, Shalyse Smith,  serve as an Alumni Service Corp volunteer.  Unfortunately, Shalyse will be leaving Bellarmine to attend St. Martin’s University where she will complete her degree in Social Work and play basketball in the 2023-24 season.  Thank you Shalyse for your service, we will miss you!
  • We invite you to share this program with alumni, from any Jesuit school, to consider applying for the 2023-24 school year.  If you have any questions please contact Jessica Achziger at achzigerj@bellarmineprep.org.

  • January 9: Junior Parent Night, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
  • January 10: Experience Bellarmine Day
  • January 11: Extended Office Hours, 7:30-10:00 a.m.
  • January 16: No School, Martin Luther King Holiday
  • January 18: MLK Assembly, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

During this holiday season, I found myself focusing on the moment and trying to avoid the distraction of tasks.  I once read that it is essential for an authentic life to take hold of the here and now.  It is easy to get caught up with our schedules and tasks; and it can be difficult to find time to nourish relationships.  In the coming months, it is important to me to be present to the needs of the community, to support and lead us as we prepare for the hire of our permanent president.  I look forward to the opportunities to engage in rich conversations about our common goal - to animate our mission in everything we do.
