Meet Coach Dempsey

Jim Dempsey - Boys Soccer Head Coach

Jim Dempsey is the Head Coach of the Bellarmine Boys Soccer program and brings nearly three decades of coaching experience to the role. He took over heading coaching duties in 2022, is currently in his 14th year overall at Bellarmine and has spent 28 years coaching at the high school level.

Coach Dempsey earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Central Washington University and played soccer collegiately and semi-professionally. Prior to joining Bellarmine, he served as the Head Coach of the Charles Wright Academy Girls Soccer program from 1998 to 2011, while also coaching as an assistant for the Charles Wright Boys Soccer program during various seasons over that same period.

At the heart of Coach Dempsey’s approach is the philosophy of “We Before Me.” He believes in using soccer as a vehicle to help student-athletes build deep relationships, develop character, and learn essential life lessons that extend far beyond the field. His program emphasizes teamwork, leadership, accountability, and shared responsibility.

Coach Dempsey coaches at Bellarmine because of the school’s commitment to forming the whole person. He values the opportunity to help student-athletes grow not only as players, but as teammates and leaders who carry the lessons learned through sport into their lives beyond high school.

A lifelong resident of the South Sound, Coach Dempsey grew up in Lakewood, Washington, where he continues to live with his wife, Megan ’92, and their two sons, Ciaran B’22 and Quinlan B’24, both Bellarmine alumni. In addition to coaching, he teaches psychology and leadership at Bellarmine. Outside of school, his interests include waterskiing, outdoor activities, photography, and travel.
