Meet Coach Woodworth

Derek Woodworth- Girls Soccer Head Coach

Derek Woodworth B’06 is the Head Coach of the Bellarmine Girls Soccer program. A proud Bellarmine alum, Coach Woodworth returned to campus to lead the program after years of coaching experience at both the club and high school levels. He is currently in his second year at Bellarmine and has four total years of head coaching experience.

Coach Woodworth earned his degree in Business and Economics from the University of Puget Sound. Prior to Bellarmine, he coached with Seattle United in club soccer and served as head coach at Nathan Hale High School, where he led the program to the 3A State Tournament for the first time in more than 20 years during his first season.

At Bellarmine, Coach Woodworth emphasizes three guiding principles within the girls soccer program: passion, accountability, and respect. He believes that representing Bellarmine on the field should be a source of pride and joy, and that holding one another accountable while showing respect both on and off the field builds strong relationships and lasting success. His approach is rooted in developing student-athletes not only as competitors, but as teammates and leaders.

Coaching at Bellarmine has long been a dream for Coach Woodworth. After attending a small middle school, he remembers the transition to Bellarmine as intimidating at first, but quickly found a sense of belonging through the soccer program. Many of his most meaningful memories were formed on the field alongside his teammates, and he hopes to create those same formative experiences for today’s student-athletes with the support of his dedicated coaching staff.

Beyond wins and losses, Coach Woodworth hopes his players gain lifelong friendships, shared memories, and a deep connection to the program. A member of Bellarmine’s 2004 State and National Championship team, he credits the relationships and moments off the field as some of the most meaningful of his athletic career.

Coach Woodworth and his wife, Kelly, who is also a Bellarmine Soccer State Champion, have a young daughter who already enjoys being around the program. He is grateful to be part of the Bellarmine community and remains committed to fostering a program where student-athletes feel supported, challenged, and proud to wear the blue and white.
